SUMMER HOURS OF: OPERATION

JULY IS RECREATION AND PARKS MONTH - To celebrate Recreation and Parks Month the Sheffield Parks & Recreation Department will sponsor a Free Swim Day on July 21st. at the Municipal Pool. Free hot dogs, drinks and watermelon will be served. Everyone is invited to join the fun on July 21st from 1:30-5:30 pm. |

Summer Lunch Program - A free lunch
program for all school age children will begin at the Michael Center on June
5 and end
July 28. Lunches will be served Monday-Friday from 12:00-12:30 p.m. This program is
co-sponsored with the State Department of Education and all children in attendance are
served the same meal at no charge, regardless of race, color, handicap, or national origin
and there is no discrimination in the food service. Movie Days - Movies will be shown every Friday during the summer months. Movie time will begin at 10:30 am. each Friday. Call the Michael Center if you have a movie you would like to see. Craft Days - Craft projects will be worked on every Thursday during June and July. Classes will begin at 10:30 a.m. and you do not have to sign up to participate in the class. Summer Nutrition Program - Katernia Cole who works with the Alabama Cooperative Extension System, will conduct a Nutrition Education Program using various nutrition games beginning June 7th. at the Michael Community Center. Program will be on Mondays and Wednesdays during the months of June and July and you may join the program at anytime. Call the Michael Center for more information. Pool & Ping Pong Tournaments - Ages 18 and under. Check bulletin board for times and dates. Summer Outdoor Basketball League - League will begin June 7th and continue through the month of July. Ages 8 - 11 and 12 - 14. Sign up begins June 1st. |
| CLASSES
MAJORETTE - BATON TWIRLING CLASS - Class will meet on Monday evenings from 6:00 - 6:50 p.m. Instruction in beginning baton, basic twirls and marching technic2ues. Class will perform in local events including the Sheffield High School Homecoming Parade, other local parades and local and state competition. This is a continuing Class and you may join at any time. Instructor for the Glass is Kim Sibley. Fee: $21.00/month
Kinderquatics - 6 months - Two years. This class is designed to
introduce infants to the water and to water safety. The primary emphasis is to instruct
parents in the best way to create a Kinderquatics - July 10 - 14 (Indoor Pool) Session #1 10:25-10:55 a.m. Session #2 11:00-11:30 a.m. |

All swimming lessons will be taught in the outdoor pool. All fees must be paid in advance. Child must be five years old to sign up for a beginner class. Lessons Missed: There is no available time to reschedule lessons missed: therefore, no lessons will be made up. Refunds: No refunds will be made afternoon on the Friday before the beginning of a session on Monday. Schedule Change: After registration in a given class, please do not ask permission to change your schedule to a different session or class. Level 1: Water Exploration for 3 & 4 year olds prepares a child for a beginner class. Three & four year olds will not be tested and Classes are limited to six children per instructor.

COMPETITIVE SWIM TEAM SUMMER
SWIM TEAM Practice begins May 1st and continues through the month of
July. The Summer Swim team is a member of the Tennessee Valley Swim
Conference and also participates in the ARPA District and State Swim Meets.
Registration fee: $25/family No monthly fee for the summer swim team. Coaches: Georgia Crandall and Jerry Mills The Sheffield Swim Team (SST) is sponsored by the Parks and Recreation Department for boys and girls age 18 and under. This is a year around program and you may join the team at any time. For more information, Call the Recreation Department. A registration fee will be charged to join the team. |
